Edible gold features in "exclusive" new cocktailMonday, 14th April 2008 (303 views) Edible gold dust is used to top off a new cocktail in New Zealand that its creators claim is the most expensive ever made in the country, according to reports.Tvnz.com says the NZ$1,000 (£399) drink mixes rare 30-year-old Jamaican gold rum with $2,500-a-bottle Louis Tres 13 cognac with saffron and finally the gold dust for decoration. Gold rum takes its name from its dark colour, which is achieved by ageing the spirit in charred white oak barrels usually used in the maturing of bourbon whiskey. The launch of the drink, named the Joy of Rum, was attended by the "master blender" who developed it in Jamaica, Joy Spence, the site says. It adds that the exclusive cocktail will only be available at two bars in Queenstown, a resort on the country's South Island. The area, which has a history of gold mining, is now popular for adventure tourism activities such as bungee jumping, skiing, river surfing, sky diving and paragliding.
