KL Gold unveils results

Monday, 17th March 2008 (3687 views)

Kirkland Lake (KL) Gold has announced the results of its development and exploration work for the third quarter of the 2008 fiscal year.

The firm, which operates five mines around Kirkland Lake in the Canadian province of Ontario, said operational highlights included production from the highest-grade gold zone at the South Mines Complex (SMC).

Ore grades from this area for the quarter were 13.37 g/t gold, the company said. Since mining began there in July 2007, it added, the SMC has produced 23,718 tonnes of ore grading at 18.66 g/t gold.

This is expected to rise as new access ramps within the mine complex are completed in the 2009 fiscal year, KL Gold said.

Meanwhile, the company's joint venture exploration drilling to the south continues to expand the SMC and includes the discovery of a new area of mineralisation - the New South zone.

Returns from this zone include 65 g/t gold uncut over 9.14 metres, which extends mineralisation to the west and 11.19 g/t gold over 8.53 metres.

Over their lifetimes, KL Gold's five mines - the Macassa, Kirkland Minerals, Teck-Hughes, Lake Shore and Wright Hargreaves - have produced around 22 million ounces of gold.
