"Significant" gold mineralisation found in Nevada

Friday, 14th March 2008 (3679 views)

Underground drilling at the Sterling property in the US state of Nevada has intersected "significant" gold mineralisation that has extended the site's main zone, the company behind the work has said.

Canadian developer Imperial Metals said that drilling was carried out east of the previous boundary of the 144 zone.

Gold values returned from one of these holes were 4.46 g/t gold over 79.5 feet (24.23 metres), which included an intersection of 10.28 g/t gold over 15 feet.

A second hole drilled in the eastern zone returned gold graded at 2.40 g/t over 264 feet. This included an intercept of 5.28 g/t gold over 38.7 feet.

Another hole drilled in the same location but to the south of the decline returned additional results of 3.43 g/t gold over 56.2 feet, including a section graded at 5.83 g/t gold over 11.2 feet.

Overall, Imperial Metals said the drilling has expanded the zone of significant gold mineralisation to over 350 feet.

The Sterling property is located near the town of Beatty, approximately 185 kilometres north-west of Las Vegas. Between 1980 and 2001, the Sterling mine was in production, yielding 194,996 troy ounces of gold from both underground and surface works.
