Drilling for high-grade gold starts in AlaskaThursday, 6th March 2008 (2400 views) Gold drilling is underway at the CJ gold project on Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, Altair Ventures has announced. The company said the campaign will involve the drilling of 12 holes to a combined depth of 1,500 metres. It will specifically target high-grade gold mineralisation around the formerly gold producing Dawson mine. Previous drilling at the site by Altair and Full Metal confirmed the presence of a sediment-hosted, structurally-controlled high-grade gold system at CJ, the company said. The vein system has a strike length of 3,200 metres with a depth of 500 metres. Other drilling at the Dawson mine, which was carried out in 1980, returned high-grade values including 40.4 g/t gold over 2.4 metres, 28.3 g/t gold over 6.3 metres and 18.7 g/t gold over 8.8 metres. Additional intersections included 9.3 g/t gold over 4.9 metres and 8.7 g/t gold over four metres. The CJ property covers 1,550 acres near Kassan on Prince of Wales Island. Several historically producing mines are located in the vicinity of property.
