Gold chains hunt goes nationwideThursday, 6th March 2008 (1466 views) Police in Hartlepool, England are to enlist the help of antique experts it their search for historic ceremonial gold chains that were recently stolen from the town's civic centre, according to reports.The Hartlepool Mail says police have placed adverts in national antique magazines as part of their efforts to recover the pieces - a vice-chairman's chain dating to the late 1800s an a vice-chairman's lady chain from 1902 - after they were taken on January 2nd. A police spokesperson told the newspaper that officers hoped the adverts would jog the public's memory about seeing or hearing of the chains. She added that placing adverts in antiques publications was "often" used by police forces investigating such thefts. "We certainly have not given up hope of recovering the chains and we would once again appeal for anyone with information to get in touch," a spokesperson for Hartlepool borough council added. Hartlepool is a port town on the North Sea coast in England's north-east. The town hit the headlines in May 2002 when H'Angus the Monkey, the local football team's mascot, was elected mayor.
