Gold mines in Nevada have reported no major damage or disruption to operations due to the earthquake that shook the US state on February 21st.

According to news service Reuters, the quake measured 6.0 on the Richter scale and was centred on near the town of Wells. According to the Nevada Division of Emergency Management, an estimated 400 to 700 homes were damaged along with churches and the local high school.

However, gold mining firms Quadra and Great Basin Gold, which both have operations in the area, reported no disruption to their activities.

Vancouver-based Quadra Mining said its project, the Robinson mine near Ely, Nevada, 139 miles south of the epicentre, had suffered no damage and production was continuing as normal.

Great Basin reported that following an inspection by its staff, the Hollister mine development project had also escaped unscathed. Hollister is located around 94 miles from the earthquake zone.

According to the US geological survey, the earthquake hit at around 06:16 local time.
