Gold resource estimate issued for Burkina Faso mine

Friday, 15th February 2008 (2402 views)

Orezone Resources has released the results of its gold resource estimate for the Bombore project in Burkina Faso, west Africa.

Total indicated resources at the site are put at 576,000 ounces of gold contained within 29.6 million tonnes at a grade of 0.61 g/t gold. Inferred resources, meanwhile, are estimated at 501,000 ounces of gold within 23.7 million tonnes, graded at 0.66 g/t gold.

These resources are distributed throughout five zones in the site. This gold-in-soil anomaly extends for more than 14 km and represents the largest gold anomaly in Burkina Faso, the company said.

Composition of the resources found at Bombore matches the disseminated deposit style that Orezone says recent studies have found to be the most favourable exploration target in Burkina Faso.

Such zones are thought to match the size and geological make up of some of the largest deposits found in neighbouring Ghana.

Steve King, vice-president of exploration for Orezone, said: "Our understanding of Bombore is evolving and the new models and current drilling will provide us with an opportunity to rapidly and significantly expand the gold resource at Bombore."

The 250 sq km Bombore project is located around 80 km east of the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou.
