African gold study nearing completion, conference toldFriday, 8th February 2008 (2244 views) A $3 million (£1.54 million) feasibility study for the 2.6 million-ounce Passendro gold project in the Central African Republic will be completed by the end of March, a project manager for the company behind the scheme has said.Charles Brown, of Canadian exploration and mining firm Axmin, told delegates at the Mining Indaba conference in South Africa that once the study has wrapped up, construction of the mine is expected to follow by the end of 2008, Mining Weekly reports. He added that production at the site, which is located within the 120-kilometre Greenstone belt, is forecast to begin in the last quarter of next year. There is also strong development potential at Passendro and the company plans to investigate further exploration there, he said, as part of a $12.8 million programme slated for the first half of 2008. In addition to Passendro, Axmin currently operates in Mali at the 0.53 million-ounce Kofi gold project and the Komahun project in Sierra Leone.
