Soil zones on strike with 'significant gold deposits' in GhanaTuesday, 5th February 2008 (2542 views) Soil samples at the Kaniago project in Ghana have identified five zones on direct strike with large gold deposits surrounding the property, the company behind the scheme has said.Midlands Minerals says two of the zones are part of a north-east soil gold corridor with a strike length of seven kilometres, which is also on direct strike with the Abore open pit mine and the 1.7 million-ounce Esaase gold deposit to the south. Another zone to the east is on strike with the Obotan open pit mine, which has 2.8 million ounces of gold, while a fourth zone forms an extension of the open pit operation at Adubiaso. Together, they form part of an important regional gold trend, Midlands says. Using the survey results, the company has identified has identified "very large" targets for drilling at Kaniago. Midlands Minerals currently develops exploration and mining projects in the Ashanti and Asankrangwa gold belts, which contain over 80 million ounces of gold reserves, in east Africa and in the Lake Victoria goldfields in Tanzania to the west.
