Gold coin author to speak at University of Kentucky

Friday, 11th January 2008 (1587 views)

Gold coins will be on display during a free lecture by a local author at the University of Kentucky, according to the Kentucky Kernel, a campus newspaper.

Michael Moran, who authored Striking Change: The Great Artisitic Collaboration of Theodore Roosevelt and Augustus Saint-Gaudens, is set to speak at the university on Sunday at the campus' Art Museum, which is located within the Singletary Centre for the Arts.

His book, which will be offered for sale following the lecture, examines the link between the US president and the sculptor, with special reference made to the quest to develop American coins "as beautiful" as those used by the Ancient Greeks, according to Whitman Publishing, the publisher of the book.

Numerous gold coins are set to be on display at the lecture, including final designs submitted by Saint-Gaudens to the former president.

The university offers over 200 programmes of study and hosts students from around 117 countries around the world.
