First Spouse gold coins to be released in FebruaryWednesday, 9th January 2008 (1643 views) Designs for four new US First Spouse gold coins have been released, with the first expected to be available from February 14th.The half-ounce $10 gold coins commemorate the lives and work of the spouses of former US presidents and are crafted in the chronological order in which they lived in the White House. Current items in the collection, which debuted in 2007, include coins for Martha Washington, Abigail Adams and Dolley Madison, as well as a Liberty coin to depict the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, who was a widower at the time of his presidency. According to the US Mint, coins which are issued to commemorate a presidency in which there was no first spouse will feature an image of Lady Liberty. A total of four gold coins are expected to be released into the collection in 2008, including two Liberty coins to depict Martin Van Buren and Andrew Jackson, as well as Louisa Adams and Elizabeth Monroe. The Monroe First Spouse coin will be the first to be released this year, with price to be determined based on the value of gold closer to its February release date, according to Numismaster.com.
