Gold rush photos to be displayed in Banff museumTuesday, 8th January 2008 (2493 views) Photos of the Klondike gold rush of 1897-98 are to be displayed at the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies in Banff, Alberta, the Canadian Press reports. The display, entitled The Gold Rush: The Imaginary Exhibit, consists of contemporary and historical photographs, which were first made famous for their depiction of the obstacles faced by 19th-century gold seekers. "Photography, more than anything else, succeeded in making the daring efforts of gold seekers come alive, making them known throughout the world through stereoscopic views distributed by the biggest publishers," the museum said. Calling the display "a moment of reflection of a great epic" the Whyte Museum claims the photos feature the Canadian Rockies as the protagonist in the story of the gold rush. The collection of photographs was the feature display at the 2006 Winter Olympic games in Turin, Italy. According to the Banff-based museum, the collection will debut on January 18th and will be displayed until April 16th.
