Gold mining museum celebrates Australian historyWednesday, 2nd January 2008 (1516 views) The Golden Memories Museum has been cited by the Central Western Daily newspaper as a committed collection of historic gold mining-related objects from the communities of Millthorpe, Orange and Dubbo.Of particular note is the steam traction engine from 1911, which is housed in the centre of a guest walkway, so visitors can observe the 13-tonne machine from all sides. Originally costing £500 to transport from Cowra to Trunkey Creek, the engine was used to test the quality of gold and to clear land for gold mines. The museum is made up of a total of seven buildings and also includes the Museum of Rural Technology and a Pioneers Gallery, as well as a craft shop and a large archive, where visitors can trace their early family history. It is open on weekends between 13:30 and 17:00 local time, as well as from 10:00 to 5:00 pm on public holidays and school holidays.
