More gold coins for Salvation ArmyWednesday, 2nd January 2008 (1906 views) Another gold coin has been discovered in Salvation Army donation kettles in Lincoln, Nebraska following the end of the charity's 2007 Christmas campaign. The latest donation to the Red Kettle charity drive, which ended on Christmas Eve, was a 1998 $5 coin containing around $100 (£50) of fine gold, the Associated Press reported. Salvation Army spokeswoman Leta Powerll Drake told the press that the donation, like many others made this Christmas, was anonymous. Last week, charity workers found two other gold coins in red kettles placed in the Lincoln area, including a South African Krugerrand. In nearby Omaha, Nebraska, a total of three gold coins were discovered during this year's Salvation Army charity drive. Meanwhile, a gold Indian head coin worth around $160 was deposited in a red kettle in Auburn, California on December 20th, wrapped in an envelope. The coin will be sold and profits will be used to support the local community food bank.
