Christmas festivities planned at gold museum

Thursday, 13th December 2007 (1640 views)

The Gold Nugget Museum in California is to entertain visitors with a large display of Studio 57 village scenes this festive season.

Based in Chico, the museum has urged guests to "step back in time" and take in the stores, taverns, churches and homes which will be blanketed in seasonal snow.

Moreover, the gold museum has confirmed that the original sleigh and reindeer prop used in the 1947 movie Miracle on 34th Street will be on display in the Collector's Corner.

There will be more surprises at the back of the museum, with parlour furniture from the Eastlake period and a tree decorated with paper cornucopias.

The museum recounts how during the Eastlake era, families were encouraged to make their own knick-knacks rather than accepting extravagant ornaments of the Rococo period.

Incorporated in 1973, the Gold Nugget Museum aims to preserve and protect the region's mining heritage through a collection of artefacts, as well as with community education programmes.
