Gold coin supports Illinois Christmas charityWednesday, 12th December 2007 (1770 views) A gold coin has been donated anonymously to the Salvation Army for the 12th year in a row in Paris, Illinois, according to the Beacon News.This year, a gold coin was deposited inside a red kettle at a Wal-Mart store in the community, which was manned by members of the Kiwanis Early Risers as the donation was made. According to local Red Kettle campaign chairman Ken Hamilton, the coin is set to be auctioned off at an annual banquet held for the community's chamber of commerce on February 2nd 2008. Paris is not the only US city to have a serial coin donator. Earlier this month, a gold coin was donated for the second year in a row in Barre, Vermont, while Salvation Army workers in Grundy County, Illinois have noted a gold coin donation for five consecutive years. The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Christmas charity campaign began shortly after the US Thanksgiving holiday and will continue across the country until Christmas Eve.
