Wednesday, 5th December 2007 (6489 views) A self-professed treasure hunter in Arkansas has discovered a number of gold coins in his efforts to solve a family mystery, the LA Times reported.Bob Brewer believes that his family was linked to a secret Confederate organisation in the US called the Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) which is rumoured to have buried millions of dollars' worth of gold across several states in an effort to save funds for a second American Civil War. Beginning with the discovery of a number of carvings on a beech tree in the forest near Brushy Creek, which include references to the Bible, a horse with no legs and a heart, Mr Brewer has conducted years of research, leading to the discovery of around $200,000 (£98,386) in coins. He has also penned a book about his search, Rebel Gold, which has recently been republished in paperback form. Originally published under the title Shadow of the Sentinel: One Man's Quest to Find the Hidden Treasure of the Confederacy, the book shares a number of similarities with the Nicolas Cage film National Treasure, according to the Washington Post. Mr Brewer acted as a consultant on the second film of the National Treasure series, which is to be released in cinemas on December 21st.
