Gold teeth donated to charityMonday, 19th November 2007 (2836 views) A charity scheme is allowing UK dentists to donate their patient's old gold tooth fillings to a number of good causes, according to Norfolk news source EDP24.The recycling programme involves the collection of gold tooth fillings which have been donated by dental patients who do not wish to keep them following their removal or replacement. Dentists then sterilise the unwanted fillings and store them until they can be sold to a precious metal assay company. The money from the sale is used to support a variety of charitable causes, including Children in Need, the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, Born Free animal welfare and Quidenham Children's Hospice. A recent donation of gold teeth, metal crowns and bridges from the Holt Dental Practice in north Norfolk raised around £1,000 for charity. Gold donations have been collected by a number of charitable organisations this autumn, including Wales Air Ambulance, which received a donation of a gold ring valued at £850 in September.
