A commemorative gold coin, the first of its kind in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has been released in Dubai.

The collectible Visions of Dubai coin, the first in a planned series of gold coins, was jointly launched this autumn by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMMC) and the World Gold Council in an effort to reflect the identity and spirit of the emirate.

One side of the coin features an embossed image of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, while the other side depicts the iconic Burj Al Arab.

Further coins in the series will recognise "visionary leadership" in Dubai, as well as the emirate's pursuit of excellence through innovation and leadership.

Each coin consists of one ounce of fine gold and the coins are available in four different sizes.

It is hoped that the coin's release will work to further promote Dubai's reputation as the City of Gold worldwide.
