Panning for gold at Nevada Mining Week

Tuesday, 16th October 2007 (1726 views)

Pre-celebrations are underway in Nevada as the state prepares to celebrate Nevada Mining Week at the end of October.

The event, which is sponsored by the Nevada Mining Association, is scheduled to take place in both the north and south of the state to celebrate the discovery of the Comstock Lode, which helped the state to become the fourth-largest producer of gold in the world, according to Kolo News Now.

Pre-celebrations began over the weekend with the Meridian Gold Run for Education held on October 14th.

The official Nevada Mining Week activities are scheduled to begin on Friday October 26th with panning for gold and mine exploration activities at the Great Basin Adventure Park near Reno.

According to the Nevada Mining Association, underground mines in the state account for around 25 per cent of Nevada's total gold production.

Currently, gold is the state's premier mineral resource, providing more economic contribution, employment and revenue than any other precious metal or mineral in Nevada.
