Black-tie-optional or come-in-gold will be the theme of the attire at the opening gala for the re-opening of the Old US Mint at the Louisiana State Museum.

The gold-themed celebration will also offer a sneak preview of the new display at the museum, entitled GOLD, which is set to run until January 2008 and will showcase the history of the precious metal.

Prizes will be awarded for the best historically-inspired, most creative and most elegant evening attire.

In addition, everything at the celebration – from golden cocktails and gold-clad mimes to entertainment provided by the eight-piece Lil' Band O' Gold – is planned to be gold-themed.

Louisiana's Old US Mint, which was damaged by Hurricane Katrina and has undergone extensive refurbishment in preparation for its re-opening, produced over 400 million coins between 1838 and 1909.

The historic facility, located in Louisiana's French Quarter, is the only mint to have struck coins as both a Confederate Mint and as a United States Mint.
