Plans for Detour Lake feasibility study underwayFriday, 12th October 2007 (1504 views) Several contracts have been awarded for a feasibility study at the Detour Lake gold property in northern Ontario, Canada, according to Detour Gold.In addition to a 100,000-metre drilling programme currently underway at the site, the company has awarded contracts for open-pit geotechnical and geomechanical investigations, as well as further metallurgical test work, acid rock drainage and mine pit optimisation. Some 703 diamond drill hole intersections will be utilised to confirm recoveries and gold grade variability at the project site, in addition to a 2,500-metre oriented-core drilling programme that is intended to explore the rock mass on the site of a proposed open-pit mine at Detour Lake. Phase II drilling at the project which has been underway since early July is expected to wrap up in November, bringing the total number of holes drilled in 2007 to 254. The Detour Lake project is situated on 242 kilometres of the Abitibi Greenstone Belt in north-eastern Ontario, 140 kilometres away from the town of Cochrane. It is located in the same area as the former Detour Lake mine, which closed in 1999 and produced 1.8 million ounces of gold during its 16-year mine life.
