Friday, 14th September 2007 (3574 views) An Elizabeth I gold coin was among the gold items sold at a recent multi-estate sale held at Long Island in New York last weekend.At the event held by Philip Weiss Auctions, two gold Russian coins were also sold for "princely sums". One coin - with a face value of ten rubles and dated 1778 - sold for $11,865 (£5,900), while the other dating 1894 and displaying a bust of Alexander III with a crowned eagle sold for in excess of $4,000. Meanwhile, a £1 British gold coin featuring Elizabeth I from the lifetime collection of Dr Philpot was purchased for $9,887.50. Elizabeth I of England has been referred to over the years as The Virgin Queen, Gloriana, or Good Queen Bess - she was the fifth and last monarch of the Tudor house, reigning for 45 years. She was the daughter of Henry Tudor and the executed Queen Anne Boleyn.
