Thursday, 13th September 2007 (3258 views) A selection of "one-of-a-kind" early Americana and Old West gold coins are due to go on display in California, it has been revealed.The gold coins are set to be showcased at the Long Beach Coin, Stamp and Collectibles Expo in the Long Beach Convention Centre this month from September 27th-29th. In addition to gold coins, gold ingots and medals will be exhibited, including the 1907 Ultra High Relief Saint-Gaudens double eagle. "The display by Monaco Rare Coin of Newport Beach features ... one-of-a-kind gold pieces from 1795 and 1800," said Ronald J Gillio, expo general chairman. He added that the 1795 Half Eagle is the earliest-dated US gold coin ever designed as a specimen by either Numismatic Guaranty Corporation or Professional Coin Grading Service. Furthermore, the 1800 Eagle is the earliest $10 denomination gold coin ever certified as a specimen strike by NGC or PCGS. In other news, Pr-GB.com reported that the 24-carat gold bullion coin known as the American Buffalo was the first offered for sale by the United States Mint in June 2006.
