Dubai gold sales "surge" in first half of 2007Monday, 6th August 2007 (4071 views) Gold industry sales in Dubai have "surged" during the first five weeks of the Dubai Summer Surprises bonanza, it has been claimed.Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) was launched in 1998 as a family entertainment event during the summer season for the whole of Gulf Cooperation Council and has since been a major entertainment and shopping attraction. According to the Dubai Shopping Festival, gold industry sales have reached 200 million United Arab Emirates dirhams (£26.8 million) since the start of the summer season. "DSS has effectively contributed to increasing our retail sales. Our Intimacy collection has enjoyed wide appreciation from our customers due to unmatched designs and premium quality. The collection was launched along with a robust promotion involving free shopping vouchers for our customers," said Shazad Ajmal, product manager at Al- Futtaim Watches & Jewellery. According to Kareem Merchant, general manager of Pure Gold, during the first five weeks of DSS there was a "sharp rise" in demand for diamond products, particularly diamond and premium quality gold products.
