Lennon wore them in one of the final Beatles concerts during the band's 1966 tour of Japan and gave them to Junishi Yore. Mr Yore removed the lenses of the gold glasses in customary fashion following the death of Lennon in New York on December 8th 1980. "We can't reveal the figure because of a confidentiality agreement with the buyer," commented John Warner, sales and marketing director of the specialist musical memorabilia auctioneer 991. The round gold rimmed spectacles had attracted bids from collectors around the world, including Russia, US, Japan and the UK. According to reports, the famed glasses were sold to a British collector.
