Auction gold 'to fetch $8,000'

Wednesday, 13th June 2007 (2842 views)

Gold items including a solitaire diamond ring and gold coins are to be auctioned on eBay by the Abandoned Property Division of the state treasurer's office, Massachusetts, it has been revealed.

The Republican reports that the treasury's Abandoned Property Division's eBay live auction begins at lunchtime (Massachusetts time) tomorrow.

According to the newspaper, the items to be auctioned are those that were in safe deposit boxes left untended for seven years, following which time they are given to the state where the treasury attempts to locate the owners or their heirs.

However if this does not prove possible the items are put to a public auction.

Included in the upcoming lots is a diamond and gold necklace that is expected to sell for between $7,000 (£3,500) and $8,000, the Republican reveals.

"This is a good auction, because there's no harm, no foul, you know they've done a reasonable appraisal," coin collector Dean A Cosentino told the newspaper.

It was recently revealed that a golden gun once owned by Elvis is to go into an auction this summer.
