Designed to coincide with the auspicious Hindu festival entitled Akshaya Tritiya , which takes place this year between April 19th and 20th, the coin collection was launced yesterday by the actor Sangeetha. The GCC is an umbrella organisation of gold traders in the city of Chennai and under the terms of the purchase of the new coins, once bought, they can at a later dat be exchanged for either cash or gold. Akshaya Tritiya is considered to be the fourth most auspicious day in the Hindu calendar which is why it is traditionally a period when gold sales rise. The festival celebrates the third day of the bright half of Vaishakh.
