The draws held at the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) are proving popular as they entered their third week and include the daily Lexus mega raffle, the grand Nissan raffle as well as the gold raffle.

A father of two, Mr Basheer, from Kerala in India scooped one kilogramme of gold after triumphing in the gold raffle yesterday and said that after years of buying tickets his persisitance had finally paid off.

In addition, Maryam Maked won two cars made by Lexus as well as a cash prize and said that she had purchased her winning ticket from a petrol station.

"I buy raffle tickets only on certain days and this ticket was bought on a particular date. I am even more surprised because the raffle ticket number resembled my son's birthday date so it's more like a double celebration," said Ms Majed.

Visitor numbers at the event have been found to increase more or less year-on-year since the inaugural DSF back in 1996. The 2003 occasion was visited by the largest amount of people with 2.92 million individuals appearing in a 32 day period.
