China set for jewellery and pearl hubTuesday, 6th June 2006 (2493 views) China is set to host the largest pearl trading centre in the world, according to reports on Xinhua.The centre will be called China Pearls and Jewellery City (CPJC) and will offer a trading platform for manufacturers and wholesalers of jewellery, including gold and platinum. Located in coastal Zhejiang Province in eastern China, the site has been discussed at the JCK jewellery show in Los Angles. Ricky Cheng, chairman of the Man Sang Group, told the Chinese media the site culd be the focus for large swathes of international trade, as well as boasting up to 5,000 shops. "Major product lines to be traded at the centre will range from raw pearls and pearl products, including freshwater pearls, South Sea pearls and Tahitian pearls, to jewellery products made of gold, platinum, silver, diamonds, gemstones and semi-precious stones," he said. "It will also provide a comprehensive range of services to facilitate manufacturing, processing, assembling, research and development, exhibiting, designing, wholesaling, ordinary and bonded warehousing, delivering, e-commerce, convention exhibiting and all the way down to a full range of related professional services," he added. China's growth in gold demand has increased since moves were made to relax regulation, particularly thanks to innovative products such as K-gold, 18 carat gold with Italian inspired design, which appeal to the burgeoning consumer class.
