Solitaire hoping for gold in northern CanadaThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Friday, 2nd June 2006 (6836 views) Canadian firm Solitaire Minerals has announced plans to perform an airborne survey of a prospective gold mining area. The Vancouver-based firm has hired the services of Geotech to conduct the helicopter VTEM geophysical survey at the Mystery Island site over the next two months. The survey will take place over some 21,830 acres of land in the Great Bear Lake region of the Northwest Territories, around 430 kilometres north of Yellowknife. Geology and mineralisation tests on the area show it to be of a similar consistency to that of the Olympic Dam area in south-western Australia, which recently yielded large quantities of gold, silver and copper. As well as gold, Solitaire is hopeful that the area will offer significant amounts of iron oxide and copper. The Mystery Island site lies adjacent to Alberta Star Development's own exploration plot, which has so far yielded gold, iron oxide, copper, silver and uranium, with plans for a 15,000-metre drill project during the coming months.
