Oz miner hunts New Zealand goldThursday, 22nd December 2005 (3634 views) Australian gold miner Aurora Minerals has been given the green light to begin hunting for gold in Northland in New Zealand, Newstalk ZB reports.Aurora will launch a $10 million exploration venture with its partner Emerald Mining, after gaining permission from the regional council. Exploration will begin at a site just north of Kaeo in the new year. Aurora, which describes itself as a minerals exploration company, runs gold projects in both its native Australia and in New Zealand. The company's current focus in New Zealand centres on the 1,013 square kilometre Hazelbrook epithermal gold project. Its ultimate aim, however, is to develop an epithermal system as big as the nearby eight million ounce Martha mine. Aurora's new project comes on the back of its listing on the Australian stock exchange in June 2004, which raised $4 million for minerals exploration. The company also listed on the New Zealand stock exchange in October 2004.
