Corporation Bank, based in Mangalore, has just released a centenary gold coin.

V K Chopra, chairman and managing director at Corporation, stated that while gold is usually worn for festive and cultural celebrations, it can also be owned for investment reasons.

The coin was launched at a particularly festive time. October 4th marks the start of Navaratri.

Corporation Bank was the first in the public sector to import gold when the government allowed it into the domestic market in 1997.

Weighing eight grams, the centenary gold coin has 999.99 purity, which is the international standard. The coins were imported from Switzerland and come with a purity certificate.

Corporation Bank also recently launched an equity brokerage facility for customers with operating accounts.
