SA gold producers offer wage increaseWednesday, 29th June 2005 (3066 views) Gold producers in South Africa have submitted a wage increase offer for workers.Producers including AngloGold Ashanti, Gold Fields and Harmony Gold have offered a 2.5 per cent pay increase through the Chamber of Mines. However the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) have rejected the offer and described it as an "insult". Other benefits offered would mean the total package would be equal to a 3.5 per cent wage increase. The union criticised the offer since it had originally demanded a 20 per cent increase. Formal negotiations will now resume on July 6th.
