Tuesday, 10th May 2005 (4164 views) Zambia's Kansanshi copper-gold mine has reportedly started commercial production of metal. <br/><br/>The mine in the northwest of the country was officially commissioned six months ago and is run by First Quantum Minerals, Business in Africa reports.<br/><br/>Clive Newall, president of the Canadian firm, said that during the commissioning stage between November 11th 2004 and April 19th 2005, Kansanshi mine's production totalled 6,792 tonnes of copper in concentrate form and 1,941 tonnes of finished copper cathode.<br/><br/>Following a definitive feasibility study by GRD Minproc, the Kansanshi mine is supposed to treat four million tonnes of oxide ore and two million tonnes of sulphide ore, according to Mr Newall.<img alt="track" src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=13033262"/>
