Oxiana receives golden awardTuesday, 3rd May 2005 (2576 views) Mining firm Oxiana has won an award for its work to help the gold industry.The company has been presented the Australian Gold Council's Gold Company of the Year Award for 2005 for its outstanding performance for the good of the gold industry. Australian Gold Council chair, John Dow, said: "Oxiana is a shining example of how Australian foreign investment in Asia can work and work well. "Oxiana has effectively set the standards: social, technical and environmental with its world-class operation and is a truly deserving winner." The miner reported a top year in 2004, boosted by the development of its Sepon gold and copper projects. Last year Newmont, based in Australia, received the award. Oxiana managing director, Owen Hegarty, accepted the award and commented: "A combination of good people, good assets, delivering on commitments and operating responsibly has translated into Oxiana's successful growth and we are proud [of] our performance as an Australian company operating offshore."
