Tuesday, 3rd May 2005 (4006 views) Mining firm Oxiana has won an award for its work to help the gold industry.<br/><br/>The company has been presented the Australian Gold Council's Gold Company of the Year Award for 2005 for its outstanding performance for the good of the gold industry.<br/><br/>Australian Gold Council chair, John Dow, said: "Oxiana is a shining example of how Australian foreign investment in Asia can work and work well.<br/><br/>"Oxiana has effectively set the standards: social, technical and environmental with its world-class operation and is a truly deserving winner."<br/><br/>The miner reported a top year in 2004, boosted by the development of its Sepon gold and copper projects.<br/><br/>Last year Newmont, based in Australia, received the award.<br/><br/>Oxiana managing director, Owen Hegarty, accepted the award and commented: "A combination of good people, good assets, delivering on commitments and operating responsibly has translated into Oxiana's successful growth and we are proud [of] our performance as an Australian company operating offshore."<img alt="track" src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=8415643"/>
