Monday, 25th April 2005 (4542 views) Fundy Minerals has announced it has purchased reconnaissance and exploration permits in Liberia, West Africa.

The Canadian exploration company has acquired licenses for an area of around 2,000 square kilometres in the Sehnkweh Cestos Permit area, of the Sehnkweh River area.

Included in the area is the Cestos shear, which has shown gold mineralisation and the adjacent area is currently being explored by another Canadian firm.

Chairman and chief executive, Jeff Michel, said: "The Cestos shear trend in Liberia is the southernmost extension of a major regional shear zone, which hosts the Syama and
Morila gold mines in neighbouring Mali to the northeast."

Fundy feels the area is relatively untouched and it is confident of finding positive results through exploration.

Liberia has only a few companies exploring it and is one of the least explored areas in Africa, with recent government changes and country stabilisation initiatives helping to create a better opportunity for exploration there.
