Palladium cancer treatment firm reports positive profitsFriday, 22nd April 2005 (3064 views) A palladium cancer treatment device is proving a popular choice amongst healthcare professionals, with the company who created it reporting top profits today.Theragenics Corporation created the palladium-103 TheraSeed cancer treatment device, a minimally invasive and more successful alternative to prostatectomy for people suffering with prostate cancer. First quarter financial results released today show that revenue in the quarter increased by 20 per cent to $9.5 million and both the companies TheraSeed and I-Seed products saw increases. Chairman, CEO and president, M Christine Jacobs, commented: "The favourable sales metrics in our brachytherapy revenues we saw last quarter continued into the first quarter of 2005. "We're encouraged by this quarter's results. We stated last quarter that we 'begin the year with renewed excitement for our core business.' Seems we had good reason for that optimism. Diversification, both internal and external, core business and product extensions, remain our 2005 focus." Theragenics aims to be a leading provider of brachytherapy treatment devices for prostate cancer and other degenerative disease states. The company is now conducting a trial for its TheraSight product, a palladium-based treatment for the wet form of age-related macular degeneration, which causes blindness.
