Harmony appoints new board memberFriday, 22nd April 2005 (3050 views) South African gold miner Harmony has appointed a new member on its board of directors, which will come into effect from today.Joachim Chissano was formerly the president of Mozambique and was chosen due to playing a key role in Africa for decades, according to Business Day. Harmony chief executive, Bernard Swanepoel, said: "We are extremely pleased former President Chissano has agreed to become a non-executive director of Harmony. "His long track record of commitment to and involvement in the shaping of African politics and economics will ensure our business remains relevant and effective." Mr Swanepoel claimed that the experiences of the president would be "of great value" for the firm Commenting on his appointment, Mr Chissano said: "Harmony is a progressive company with strong links to Mozambique through its workforce I am looking forward to participating at board level in a committed southern African company with an international outlook." Harmony is currently the world's number six gold miner.
