Wednesday, 6th April 2005 (3993 views) African Gold has released an update on its exploration activities in Ghana, with a totally new zone discovered at its Konongo site.

The African gold explorer and miner is currently focusing on the Konongo site in the Ashanti gold belt area of Ghana and on the Banka mining licence, south of Konongo.

Through a reverse circulation-drilling programme, the company has identified a new zone, which shows a high-grade quality vein system.

It is thought the new discovery is an extension of the Konongo gold field and should offer positive results.

Oliver Baring, co-chairman commented: "We are delighted with these results. The discovery of a totally new shear zone at Konongo gives us every confidence that the initial estimate of a gold resource in excess of 950,000 ounces at Konongo will be exceeded.

"We are refining the discoveries at both Obenamase and Leopard with an extensive drilling programme. The initial results at Banka are particularly encouraging as they indicate that the licence may host a new significant gold resource."

A new drilling programme is now planned to establish grade width and refining the system size.
