Kinross looking outside for new roleFriday, 4th March 2005 (2652 views) Mining group Kinross Gold is set to pick an outsider for its new chief executive role, an analyst and close company source has revealed. An announcement on the Toronto-based miner and its new management is expected in the next few weeks, following CEO Robert Buchan's shock announcement that he was quitting on April 27th. However Buchan will remain as chairman at the company. Jeff Stanley, gold analyst at BMO Nesbitt Burns, told Reuters: "It is more likely that an external candidate will be named. There is no rush but I am led to believe that an announcement will be made in the next couple of weeks." According to Kinross' investor relations manager, Tracey Thom, a search is being conducted by a committee of independent directors both inside and out of the company. Kinross is the world's seventh biggest gold producer and is looking for someone "skilled in operations and corporate dealings".
