Tuesday, 15th February 2005 (3745 views) The commissioning of a gold mine in Botswana has been described by African president Festus Mogae as a key indicator of scope for diversity in the mineral sector.<br/><br/>Speaking at the launch of the Mupane Gold Project, he explained that there were increased opportunities and the chance to create a more prosperous and productive society.<br/><br/>The project is situated around 40 kilometres east of Francistown and is set to create new jobs for the area and boost the gold mining sector, according to BOPA.<br/> <br/>"It is also my understanding that this mine, with its processing plant and infrastructure, will have the capacity to produce and process some 3,100 kilograms or over 100,000 ounces of gold a year," he said. <br/><br/>Mr Mogae has also encouraged mine employees to take advantage of opportunities that may arise as a result of the project.<br/><br/>In addition, he welcomed the efforts of Gallery Gold in ensuring at least 95 per cent of local recruitment and training for people in Mupane.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7811063"/>
