Gold ring coins add shine to charity boxesWednesday, 12th January 2005 (2807 views) In an act motivated either by generosity or carelessness, a diamond ring was dropped into a Salvation Army donation kettle over the holiday period. However, far from it coming as a surprise to collectors at the Broward County Office, the mystery benefactor is just the latest in a line of similar incidents involving metallic donations of the non-monetary variety. Valuable and rare gold and silver coins are often dropped into the holiday receptacles set up across the country. Broward workers found a folded $1,000 check, plus a set of car keys that were mistakenly dropped into a basket. "If there's a woman whose hand is missing her ring, we want it back there," Broward Salvation Army spokeswoman Terri Lynn said. "If not, we say 'thank you' and we'll put it to good use."
