Wednesday, 12th January 2005 (4367 views) In an act motivated either by generosity or carelessness, a diamond ring was dropped into a Salvation Army donation kettle over the holiday period.<br/><br/>However, far from it coming as a surprise to collectors at the Broward County Office, the mystery benefactor is just the latest in a line of similar incidents involving metallic donations of the non-monetary variety.<br/><br/>Valuable and rare gold and silver coins are often dropped into the holiday receptacles set up across the country.<br/><br/>Broward workers found a folded $1,000 check, plus a set of car keys that were mistakenly dropped into a basket.<br/><br/>"If there's a woman whose hand is missing her ring, we want it back there," Broward Salvation Army spokeswoman Terri Lynn said.<br/><br/>"If not, we say 'thank you' and we'll put it to good use."<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7549147"/>
