Wednesday, 1st December 2004 (2517 views)

The Precious Mineral Marketing Company (PMMC) has honoured companies and individuals for their contribution to the industry in Ghana.

According to GNA, awards were given to 61 winners, who dealt in either gold or diamond.

Winners were presented with plaques, certificates and gold and diamond scales.

Present at the event, the minister of Mines, Cecilia Bannerman, explained that the government was putting in place help for small-scale miners and extra support for them with technology and advice.

In addition, the government in Ghana are looking into ways to encourage goldsmiths to add value to their products and to help them boost output.

Funds are also being sourced from Italy to help jewellers meet international standards.
