CNMC granted Malaysian mining license

Tuesday, 23rd November 2004 (2460 views)

China Nonferrous Metals International Mining (CNMC) has announced it is to begin exploring mines in Malaysia.

The move is the result of a license it has been granted to explore mines in a 120 kilometre square area of Kelantan.

Zhang Jian, president of the CNMC, told China Daily: "We will send experts and workers to Kelantan and reconnoitring will begin by the end of this year.

"We will also work hard to improve the industrialisation of this area, and contribute to the local community."

The firm was already given a 66-year license for land use last month for another 40 square kilometre area in Kelantan.

According to Mr Jian, the firm has proven reserves for the area, which includes gold and other metals.

CNMC has 17 state owned enterprises involved in the exploration and exploitation of metals and has business in Australia, Indonesia and Cambodia.
