Challenger gold mine to begin productionMonday, 8th November 2004 (2470 views) A gold mine situated in South Australia's far north west is due to begin operation, according to ABC News Online.The new $12 million Challenger underground mine is near completion and should begin production early next year. According to Perth-based Dominion Mining, there are currently 80 people working at the site, with a further ten set to be employed in early 2005. General manager Peter Banford commented: "We found this deposit in the middle of nowhere in 1995 and it took some considerable time and might I add money. "Dominion has spent with its partners just under $20 million in the last decade up to 2000 attempting to find minerals in South Australia." The mine is though to have a lifespan of around two to four years.
