Thursday, 7th October 2004 (3837 views) Canadian firm Placer Dome has revealed it has completed a pilot project to set up a mining schoolhouse at its Campbell mine site to train new miners.<BR/><BR/>The gold mining giant decided to press ahead with plans to develop a training site after a mining boom in Northern Ontario was put on hold due to a lack of skilled miners.<BR/><BR/>Brian Larson, the community liaison officer for Placer Dome told Northern Ontario Business: "We're in the middle of the third Gold Rush."<BR/><BR/>The pilot project was set up in July and the company is now ready to expand the programme and increase the number of students it can admit for the future.<BR/><BR/>Support for the training comes from government partners and students are offered common-core training on site at a real gold mine. <BR/><BR/>Young people can also learn specialist skills and how to use equipment, as well as maintenance.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=3557705"/>
