Thursday, 7th October 2004 (3792 views) The Gauteng Economic Development Agency has announced it is to help contact with China's mining sector and help the industry exploit opportunities.

According to Business Day, South Africa's exports of mining equipment to China has risen by 65 per cent in the last two years and South Africa is China's biggest trading partner in Africa.

Although China's gold industry is growing, Neil Nel from the agency claims it needs better technology, which it can gain from South Africa.

"The country does not have the type of technology that we have here in SA. There are a number of mining companies in China whose technology needs improvement," he explained.

Mr Nel claimed that it would help each country make contact too, stating: "It may sound obvious but a Chinese businessman who is not familiar with SA or the (English) language needs someone to introduce him to local manufacturers."
