Tuesday, 5th October 2004 (3928 views) Canada's Jinshan Gold Mines has revealed that pilot mining at its gold property in Northern China is now underway, in a bid to improve feasibility studies and work towards full-scale mining.

The pilot is made up of a small open pit and underground tunnel at the 217 Gold Project in Chang Shan Hao, in Inner Mongolia.

President Jay Chmelauskas commented: "We have built strong relations with the local county and provincial governments that have shown their full support for this project.

"We are in a jurisdiction that supports mining and understands the benefits that the project will provide to the local economy. "

Mr Chmelauskas claimed that all the basic engineering needs are already available and site access is good.

The programme is hoping to test a targeted, commercial production rate of 100,000 ounces a year and if successful the mine will establish Jinshan as "one of the top-tier gold mining companies in China".
