Australian copper mine reveals golden benefitsWednesday, 8th September 2004 (2546 views) An old copper site in South Australia has shown promising signs for re-opening after drilling revealed mining possibilities for gold. The Kanmantoo copper mine had not been drilled since the 1970s until recently and company Hillgrove Resources claim it now has "real potential for the re-establishment of one of Kanmantoo's traditional industries". Hillgrove managing director David Archer told The Advertiser: "A major plus is that drilling also shows that gold and silver is associated with the copper and this could significantly enhance the financial returns if the mine is reopened." Mr Archer explained that drilling will continue and a decision on a feasibility study may be made within a year. The site closed in 1976 and is situated near Adelaide.
